Program Objectives:

An exciting, practical, down-to-earth seminar for anyone interested in learning about the four key areas that lead to success! The program is based on an ethical approach to breeding, attracting great adopters, and our responsibility to promote the rat, as a pet. 

 

Rat Genetics and Inheritance:

  • rat genetics and color inheritance (Beginner-Advanced)
  • how to read and utilize pedigrees

How to Achieve your Breeding Goals:

  • developing useful record keeping
  • setting specific goals for your rattery
  • actualizing your breeding goals

Promoting Rats through the Development of Ethical Breeding Standards:

  • develop ethical policies, contracts, and questionnaires
  • photographing your rats: tips and techniques for professional quality
  • website development: elements and organization

Facilitator: Shelley Walker

The facilitator of this seminar, Shelley Walker, graduated from Cornell University with an Animal Science degree and also completed a MS in Science Education.  She has taught college level Biology in the past, and currently teaches High School Biology for a total of 8 years experience.  Ms. Walker also breeds rats as a hobbyist, and has become successful  because she utilizes a system that allows her to focus on her goals for health, type, genetics, nutrition and record keeping.  

Seminar Date, Time, Location, and Cost

This six hour seminar provides you with a wealth of information, taught in a hands-on learning style.  This program empowers you by providing strategies to help you set clear goals, learn how to determine the traits your rats possess, achieve your goals, develop procedures and policies that will enable you to attract the very best adopters.  In addition, when you have satisfactorily completed the program, you will receive a certificate that you can post on your site.

Registration Information

Registration:  To register for this seminar please fill out the form attached to this link (Registration Form) and submit it.  You will be prompted to make a payment through paypal.  If you do not wish to pay through paypal, email for address to send check or money order.  Once your payment is received you will be contacted via email.  This is your receipt.  Bring it with you for admittance to the seminar. 

Participant Forms and Materials: After you register, please click on this link and down load forms and collect the information required .  They must be completed prior to the seminar date and brought with you. 

 Please complete and bring the following:

  • CD or Jump drive that contains pictures of your breeding or potential breeding stock
  • List of your Breeding Stock and Potential Breeding Stock Form 
  • Pedigrees that contain color type, coat type, ear type, and DOB and DOD.
  • Bring your North American Rat Registry (NARR) registration ID and Password
