Everwild Rattery Focus

Everwild Rattery is focused on developing a few specific color types in an effort to develop the health, personality and type in all of our rats.  We select the very best from each litter to produce our next generation.  Each pairing has some specific goal in mind.

Our rattery is working to develop a line of Russian Blue Agouti, Russian Blue, and Black marked, dumbo, hairless, velveteen and smooth coat.  Please scroll down, to see examples of these terms, color and coat types.

Self and Marked Rats

Self Rat

The true self rat is solid in color devoid of any white marking on face, belly, back or legs.

 Marked Rat

The marked rat has some form of white spotting on the face, back, belly, or legs. This rat is considered patched.

Color Types

Russian Blue Agouti

This coloration results from the combination of both Agouti and Russian Blue.  Our goals for this line include self and marked, velveteen and smooth coat, dumbo with exceptional health, temperament, and type.

 Russian Blue

Our goals for this line include self and marked, velveteen and smooth coat, dumbo with exceptional health, temperament, and type.

Black Masked/Patched/Possum-Faced

The black masked or possum is both coloration and markings combined.  The mask is a patch of dark coloration across the eyes.  The possum face is a colored rat with a large white blaze on the face that covers the eyes.  Through careful selective breeding we have developed a line, with the help of other breeders, that are adorably marked and have exceptionally friendly personalities.  We are working aggressively to improve their size and perfect the quality of their mask and possum blazing!!

Ear Types

 Top Ear

The top ear should be medium in size, round, and set high.

Dumbo

The dumbo ear should be medium in size, round, and without creases or wrinkles.  They are set low on the head.

Coat Types

 Smooth Coat

This coat type is shiny, soft, and lies flat.

Velveteen

This coat type is curly or wavy.  The Velveteen is usually soft to the touch.  The rex coat tends to be coarse.

Hairless

At birth, a hairless kitten will have extremely curly whiskers.  By an early age, they will lose all of their hair.  Some hairless rats will continue to have some hair on their faces and other body areas, others become completely bald.
