Ratties: Louie and Leo

Location: NY

Shelley,
We have named the boys Louie and Leo.  Things went well last night.  We played for a little while and then settled them in their cage.  I read through your handout.  In one part, you talked about singing to the kittens.    That is right up my alley.  After I played with Leo, I picked up Louie and put him on my shoulder and sat down with my Ukulele and played songs for 1/2 hour.  Louie fell asleep on my shoulder.  About 15 minutes after I stopped playing, he climbed down and joined Leo in playing.  I had them out for a couple of hours and then I went to the store and got them a hammock.  Thank you for such well adjusted rats.

Ratties: Hop on Pop and Chocolate Mousse

Location: Rochester, NY

Hi Shelley,

I just wanted to let you know that both of the boys are doing great.  They have been in their cage together constantly for only the last few days,  they had to wrestle around a bit for the first few times we had them together.  They have settled in now and doing well.  Hop on Pop is quite a little moose, he has calmed down a lot since he arrived, he isn’t on a constant dead run like he was.  Chocolate Mousse is a complete sweetie he was calm from the start and only mildly curious unlike his cage mate, who can’t ever get his curiosity completely satisfied.  They love getting their treats and moose butt (Hop on Pop) chows his down immediately and little Chocolate Mousse takes his time to see it you’re going to stay while he eats.

Thanks for our little friends,

Devisser Family

Name: Barb

Ratties: Penney and Ava

Location: Cato, NY

Hi Shelley, this is Barb, in Cato. I adopted a couple little rescue ones back in March, I think it was, when both you and I were ill, and trying to get together on the thruway. (Think of the Weedsport exit.)

Anyway, just wanted you to know "Penney" and "Ava" are doing great, with distinctly different personalities. I'm not sure if the two were litter-mates, as we picked them from a group of rescue babies, but no problems, they love each other! I wish I knew how to send pics from this new email addy, but to let you know: Penney is slimmer and more adventurous. She is a good cuddler, too. Ava is chubby and a bit timid and haughty, maybe it's the names, lol!

I haven't been able to spend the time I should with them to develop their true hearts, but that doesn't mean they aren't adored. Even my husband, when he's here, interacts with them. I like to sit and let them explore the room with me in a chair next to them, reading. Penney LOVES that! Ava is stuck-up, lol. But I love them both!

I have a funny/sad story for you: the bro-in-law visited recently to drop some stuff off for storage, with wife and kids (they just got married and need to consolidate 2 homes). Her little twins, about age 9 came in the house and I said, "Would you like to see the rats?" The mom knows they are pet rats. Yet, she said, "OMG, I am outa here!!" And she actually did run out of the house! I'm not quite sure if she thought cat-sized rodents were going to come flying down the hall at her, but I put the girls back after a pet from the kids, and found her outside, she was totally disgusted. Ya know, I get this from owning a pit bull, so no surprise. It's just so frustrating when people don't have an open mind to deal with such opportunities. (She did pet, carefully, the ancient 13 yr old pit bull. Some people "just ain't" pet people.)

Thank you for the opportunity to adopt my precious ratties. They are a small bit of life other than human that we can interact with and love. A small bit that is so intelligent and accepting of that love. If only all humans would respect each other as well.

Thanks, Shelley. My little hooded girls are happy and thriving.

Shelley-I just wanted to tell you how great the baby boys are doing.  They are just so friendly, and sweet. They are very active and use every inch of their CN double cage for playing and running around with each other.
I just adore them.

I can't get over how much they have grown in 10 days! ...especially the bijou boys -- talk about chunks! They have little bellies already!
I took some photos and have attached some. I couldn't decide which ones to send so I'm just sending a whole bunch!  ( I made sure that the files were real small ;)
I think you will enjoy the pics!
I also sent some photos of the two rescue boys I got from from Kate. They are also doing very well.

Hi Shelley –

Here are some photo’s for you.  As you can see, the girls are doing well.  They are wonderfully sweet and outgoing and I am having a great time with them.

Venus has kept her name and her sister is now called (Valerie).  Venus is the sweet and cuddly one and we call Valerie the “naughty one” ha ha.  She is the one leaving “couch time”. to run around on the floor, and leaving the table top play area when the cage door is open.  So far I have been able to make adjustment to keep her where she belongs – for her safety.  They get plenty of out of cage time everyday and enjoy finding the changes I’ve made to their cage when they go back.

They are starting to use the litter box so that is great for all of us!  I keep finding my Husband in there playing with them!  That is something new – I don’t recall him playing that much with my former girls.  But these two just love to finger wrestle and coming running back and pounce – what fun they are!

Thanks very much for raising such loving friends for us!

 Talk soon,

 Anita

The rats are very healthy, full of energy.  I love watching them race around the cage, tackling each other, and having fun.  They greet me at the cage door anytime I come around.  They are perfectly happy riding around on my shoulder, or being dragged around by my kids.  They were very friendly from the time I received them.  The rats are also gorgeous.  I got exactly what I wanted, and I could not find that anywhere else in WNY.

I really don’t think you could do anything better.  I was able to view pics of the rats from time of birth up until I received them.  I asked a hundred different questions, and they were all answered.  You went out of your way, and picked up a 50lb bag of food for me, and delivered it with the rats.  Everything was top notch.
